The aims of the association Information Literacy Working Group at Swiss Universities are the impartation of information literacy in Swiss universities as an inherent part of the curricula and to establish Swiss wide standards. The association meets regularly for full-day workshops in which different topics from the area of information literacy are presented and discussed, with the aim to develop new knowledge and exchange ideas.

The main objective of the working group when it was grounded in 2005 was to promote contact between the leaders in the field of information literacy and Swiss universities and to deliver needs-based training events. In 2011, the working group decided to for an association in order to increase the visibility of the issue and to achieve greater political weight. The idea for the 2009-2011 project “Information Literacy at Swiss Universities” carried out by e-lib.ch arose from the association, or the then working group.
